Abstract:

Background:head nurses in the Operating room are responsible for implementing and monitoring standards, which are crucial for ensuring quality medical care. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of Quality Management Training on Compliance with Operating room Standards. Methods:This interventional study was conducted in 2021 on 22 Operating room head nurses of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences hospitals selected by census method and randomly divided into two groups (14 intervention, 8 control). The data collection tool included a demographic information questionnaire and a checklist for checking equipment standards. The researcher taught the educational intervention in person (individually for each supervisor). Data were analyzed in SPSS-24 software using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, standard deviation), Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman’s correlation test, Point-Biserial correlation test, and regression analysis. Results:The average age of the participants in the intervention group was 40.71 ± 5.26, and in the control group was 40.37 ± 2.61. The average level of adherence to the standards by the intervention group before the educational intervention was at a medium level (208.35 ± 20.37), and after receiving the educational intervention, it reached a high level (394.07 ± 2.464). There was a significant relationship between receiving the intervention of quality management training and the compliance of head nurses with Operating room standards (P<0.001). Conclusion:Considering the effect of educational intervention in improving compliance with Operating room standards, it is suggested that training courses be designed and implemented to maximize the level of awareness of Operating room head nurses.

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: From many years ago, Operating room has been as a noxious place to their nurses. Most of them are prone to be involved by dermatitis, because of touching chemical materials, repeated washing of hands and wearing surgical gloves. Recognizing cases with dermatitis and its etiology and teaching personnels in preventing this will be useful. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of Operating room nurses hand or arm dermatitis.Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive study in which the Operating room nurses consisted the community. Thirty-nine persons were chosen as a research sample based on understudy courses and simple sampling method, and descriptive statistics was used to describe the data. Results: Among 39 cases, 84.6% (33 persons) were in contact with harmful chemical materials as well as surgical gloves for 3.4 hours in every shift (x’=3/38).Conclusion: Many of Operating room nurses prone are to dermatitis due to the contact with chemical lotions and cleansing agents (detergent), scrubing, repeated washing and contact with latex gloves. At least for one time they have a history of hand and forearm dermatitis.

Abstract:

Introduction: Nowadays, workforce, as the most valuable asset, is facing many problems. Stressors in workforce, which have adverse effects on the body and spirit of nurses, can result in the performance of staff. The objective of this study was to determine stressors in Operating room and its impacts on nurses. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study and the study population consisted of 172 Operating room nurses working in five hospitals of Hamadan University of Medical sciences. The individuals were selected by using the total number of sampling method. The instrument for data collecting was a questionnaire that has checked stressors in five domains: psycho - social, economic and welfare, environmental, managerial and physical factors. For data analysis, SPSS 16 software, descriptive statistics, and independent t tests and correlation were used. Results: Results showed that 62.2% of the individuals were exposed to high stress.Psychological and environmental factors had the highest levels of stress (59.21, 39.65) and the managerial domain had the lowest level of stress (17.7). Among Operating room stressors, the risk of injuries from contaminated needles and the damage to the skin (50%) was most likely to cause stress. Conclusion: The present study showed that more than half of the nurses suffer from high levels of stress and serious actions should be taken in relation to the manage mental and environmental domains. It is suggested that in order to support Operating room nurses against occupational stressors, some interventions should be designed and performed.

Abstract:

Introduction: The awareness of the duties and responsibilities of Operating rooms nurses is considered as a basis for systems monitoring and quality evaluation. Operating room nurses are supposed to be aware of their professional standards and achieve their functions following professional standards. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out based on the census and sampling with 143 Operating room nurses working in nine training hospitals of Iran University of Medical Sciences. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire, and the reliability was assessed through Cronbach's alpha. Also, both face and content validity of the questionnaire have been checked by faculty members. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 19 with descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: In terms of preoperative responsibilities, 25. 7%, 35. 9%, and 38. 3% of Operating room nurses experienced the awareness levels of high, moderate, and weak, respectively. The awareness levels for 20. 4%, 34. 7%, and 44. 9% of Operating room nurses were evaluated as high, moderate, and weak, respectively. They were considering the post-operative responsibilities of Operating room nurses, 32. 3%, 32. 3%, and 35. 3% of Operating room nurses who experienced the awareness levels of high, moderate, and weak, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicated that a vast majority of Operating room nurses experienced a high level of awareness with respect to their responsibilities before, during, and after the operation. nurses’ awareness of their mission, and management and official plans for promoting deficiencies in this regard could help promote health. Contextualized education on improving the quality of nursing services should be considered as a part of the training for OR nurses and suggested to investigate the awareness level of nurses and other treatment staff about the standards of their responsibilities in diverse sectors to perform suitable planning of tasks.
